Well, hello guys, and thank you for tuning in to another episode of All Things Skin Podcast Today. I am super excited to have with me Connor Roberts. Connor is the wholesale manager for Optimal Human and so excited to have you here today.
Speaker 2:Yes, thank you so much.
Speaker 1:I'm a huge fan of Optimal Human. I was talking to you a little bit before we started. It's part of my every morning routine.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it sounds like you got a lot of the net regimen too.
Speaker 1:Yeah yeah, we'll talk a little bit more about what else I throw in my Optimal Human shake every morning. But tell us a little bit, connor. Tell us about you, tell us about Optimal Human and how you got started with them, and we'll just go through the whole story.
Speaker 2:Well, first off off, thanks for having me, of course, thanks for supporting us with carrying our product in your stores. Yes, we love it. Second podcast ever. So this is exciting. Uh, well, welcome. Yeah, no, it's, it's a great setup. Uh, we're really excited to be here. We just rebranded everything, so it's looking really good. Yeah, because it was one of those things that we can get into a little bit later. But that first one, first version of optimal hue, and you walk up to it and you kind of like what is this right? Right, it's a cool branding, but like, what is this drink right or mixture? So we really wanted to put something on the shelves that really pumped on certain things that we feel like our product provides that maybe others don't or give. So I went down to Dallas, took these tests, took these characteristic tests, tried to get some guidance on where I'm wanting to go. What is your path in?
Speaker 1:life. What is my path in?
Speaker 2:life and I've always been pretty health-oriented. I've been running for probably eight, 10 years. Health was very oriented until you know I well it was. It was oriented and then it got more advanced when I stopped drinking and that's really what led me into where I am, thank you. Where I am now, which is, you know, ran my first marathon at a 730 base, three hours, 15 minutes, like it's. It's a really. It really is amazing to see, like, what the body can do and where it can go.
Speaker 1:So health and fitness became kind of your passion.
Speaker 2:It did. Yeah, ok, so my buddy, who the owners of the company? But my buddy, colin, was talking to me about it and telling me about it and you know they bought every single green on the market and basically put all of it in front of them and like ten thousand dollars worth of just green products. How can we make the best one? And that's kind of how Optimal Human became it. You know it was. We wanted to make it better than the industry leader, which was AG1. Right, and we also wanted to make it, you know, more consumer effective in terms of price, in terms of taste, which we'll get into more. But it's there for six to seven months. I didn't know really what I was going to do.
Speaker 1:Well, we are so glad you have found yourself and we're so glad Optimal Human found you and it's probably helping your pace, helping your overall fitness goals.
Speaker 2:It is exactly yeah.
Speaker 1:So let's tell our customer a little bit, just in detail. What is Optimal Human? Yeah, you know what. What are the ingredients? Why did? Why was it created? You know? Tell us those kinds of things.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so we wanted to create a product that was US-based. We wanted to create something that was all natural, but we also wanted it to taste decent and that really is more attractive to the younger generation. That really is more attractive to the younger generation.
Speaker 2:Just off of a Spoon Moon event that we hosted a couple weekends ago, which was mostly college girls and sorority girls and they love the taste of it and that's something that they can easily get down in the morning. It can be easily a part of their routine. But it's really just a way to start your day. It's a. It's a good way to start your day feeling good, having a healthy gut moving into the day, having less, um, you know, mind fog, um, etc. So it's it's just a common. It's the gap, it's a gap filler for the common diet, because the FDA has been crazy with what they've been putting out and the foods and all that stuff is kind of coming to fruition.
Speaker 1:The American diet is the least healthy diet on the planet. It really is, and it's shocking to me how many people don't eat vegetables at all. Like I think I was mentioning my adorable niece. She's probably going to kill me for this, but she literally won't eat a vegetable unless it's fried or covered in something delicious like cheese, and so pretty much her whole plate is brown. You know when she eats, you know. So I'm like girl, we got to get you off something, you know, besides the bar food. We got to help you out so optimal.
Speaker 1:So I'm like girl, we got to get you off something besides the bar food, we got to help you out. So Optimal Human is something that you know I've introduced to her and really my whole family, my kids, I mean. They're pretty healthy, but they're 17 year old. You know twins, you know. Trying to get them to really eat healthy it's a problem, right. Luckily, their older sister is, she has her master's in biochemistry and nutrition and so she's very health and fitness oriented. So, yes, it's been so great and we have nerded out together.
Speaker 1:You know, as I've started this kind of wellness journey, it's been a large degree due to Ali, because she taught me so much about gosh. We are really screwing up as Americans. Our diet is terrible. It's leading to metabolic dysfunction, which leads to everything else heart disease, dementia, you know all of the diabetes, all of the things, right. So I just love that you guys are creating a product like this that does fill those gaps, because I can make my kids get a shake down you know I can and you know they're probably not going to, you know swallow a handful of vitamins and supplements.
Speaker 1:But this is easy, you know. Throw this in with your normal protein shake and you just you kind of got got the day started really, really well.
Speaker 2:Yeah, exactly yeah. And the idea behind that is you know, we can't all be farmers and, and you know, growing all of these crops up on our, we can't, we don't have the time, um, so we wanted to create something that was convenient, something easy. Uh, I, I mixed mine with creatine, like, like you mentioned, uh, collagen protein powder, mix it with whatever you want. Smoothies, um, make it your taste. I mean, it's yours to make and yeah, and that's the thing too, connor, it really does taste good.
Speaker 1:I mean it, I mean it's yours to make. Yeah, and that's the thing too, connor, it really does taste good. I mean it doesn't have, it's not overpowering at all. It doesn't taste chalky, which is great. And you know I was a big AG1 girl. You know I've been taking AG1s for a long time because I've been. I totally drank the Kool-Aid a few years back with Huberman and all of those guys and they're proponents of that. But we need to get you on the Huberman lab. That's what we need to do. We need to get Optimal Human up there, because it's really more things in it than AG1 has. So tell us a little bit about how it compares to AG1, because a lot of people probably know that brand.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so that's exactly what I go off of. So I used to do retention as well with Optimal Human, so I got to hear the feedback from AG1 users to Optimal Human users so I really got a good grasp on it. The three things that really I broke it down to were the transparency and the. You know the, the quality of the ingredients putting in um. You know optimal human really prioritizes the, the, the transparency, um in the ingredients and the dosage that we are wanting you to take and the minerals and nutrients that are actually involved in that. And that's something that AG1 doesn't do, which you've all seen the kind of shady news in the press and whatever but to determine the exact nutrient amounts. They make it very hard to figure out what that is, and what we've tried to do is just make it as transparent as possible, like I've got a nutrition profile right here. We have the ingredients on our website. They're very easy to find.
Speaker 1:That's amazing, and I mean all of us on this wellness journey. We're trying to make sure we're putting the right things in our bodies, and so if you can't figure out what's actually in what you're taking, then how can you make sure you're doing that well? So I love the transparency part.
Speaker 2:Yeah, exactly yeah, and then you know we're. I think the cost and the value is a huge player now too, because people are spending money on on wellness and their pets and that's it really right now. Yeah, that's wellness for me and wellness for my dog Exactly.
Speaker 2:Yeah so it's your cost and your value of a scoop, scoop of optimal human AG1 is night and day. You know it's. I always tell people imagine, walking down the whole foods aisle. You're getting your vitamins, your supplements, your minerals, what you think you should put in your body, when you don't actually even really know if that's going to be absorbed correctly. If it's got, I mean, you can be quite literally urinating out money.
Speaker 1:Oh for sure, don't know that yeah, well, none of the supplement market is really regulated, and that's what a lot of people don't know. If these aren't drugs, you know these. These are considered, you know, nutritional supplements. So there's no real regulation and people can claim anything, um, and so what you guys are actually doing, you know to to really make sure that you're doing these organic, these products that are so, so healthy for you, and you're making sure that they get absorbed into your body. You're also supporting the gut. So talk to us about is it prebiotics? Probiotics what do you have in?
Speaker 2:Yeah, so I think just to. I wanted to say this because I think most of our listeners are. I try to talk to them like they're five-year-olds because I won't be able to talk to me, but I'm not. I don't know about a wellness product. You're not the expert, right? And prebiotics are the non-digestible food ingredients that actually promote growth and activity of beneficial bacteria in the gut, because there is some bacteria that is beneficial to have, yeah, so, yeah, we have both of those prebiotics probiotics and people are really always kind of blown away to see that we have both of those in there. And you know, that's something that we felt was necessary to put in that drink as well.
Speaker 1:Well, gut health is a huge thing. Yeah, it is. And you know the microbiome. We keep learning more and more about the microbiome. We've learned that skin even has its own microbiome. Your GI tract has its own microbiome, and when those bacteria are not in balance, you don't get good absorption, you know. So it doesn't really matter what you're putting in your body.
Speaker 2:If your gut's not healthy, right, you can't really absorb those things yeah, the methylidating of the vitamins, stuff like that, that's stuff that you really need to look for and that's something that people usually don't look for. Yeah, and I didn't look for it because I mean, I'm seven months into this thing, so I'm learning every, every day.
Speaker 1:Well, you guys are fixing it for us, because now we just don't have to think about it. We know you've got all the good stuff in there for us. So let's talk about some of these ingredients. Let's talk about, like spirulina. Tell us about that.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so spirulina that's. I had to take me forever to even pronounce that, but yeah, it's great for skin. It's great for skin health One, it's high in nutrient content. It's got good stuff for your immune support, brain health. Overall, it's just for me personally. I have high cholesterol, so it manages, excuse me, like LDL levels, triglyceride levels, so so, yeah, that that was a key ingredient. Blood pressure is another one of those. Um, so, yeah, I was actually on medicine and I am actually now off my cholesterol medicine because of this product that feels really good, doesn't it?
Speaker 1:it does, yeah it does.
Speaker 2:Don't worry about taking cholesterol medicine because, like you said on your podcast, we need to be more proactive and right exactly, exactly.
Speaker 1:So yeah, just because you don't have a diagnosis of high cholesterol or high blood pressure, this is a great thing to start, because this can actually be that preventative thing that might keep you from going down that path. So I love that. I've gotten hugely into the whole idea of preventative medicine. As you know, kind of nerd out about it a little bit. So tell us another ingredient or two that you love that's in Optimal Human, that makes it kind of special or different.
Speaker 2:So I think the mushroom extract is very unique to any product in the wellness space, is very unique to any product in the wellness space, from the relish relish, relish mushroom to the the lion's mane, ashwagandha it's. It really brings that kind of steady, calm focus for me. It really kind of levels out your day, gives you that natural energy that I really like and you know the the gap filling is huge for me because I'm a huge snacker. This really does. I'm not hungry until dinner, like I drink in the morning. They're on my day. I forget to eat because I'm busy doing stuff and you know it really does fill your gap.
Speaker 1:So well, I'm kind of a. I'm kind of a faster in the morning, so this is what I drink, this is. I do this in the morning. I was telling you my little concoction. You know, I've got my protein powder that I put in it. I put my fiber in there, I put my collagen in there. I've recently added colostrum, even because I'm literally going over the top trying to do everything um anti-aging and health related. Well, thanks, I'm trying, I'm trying.
Speaker 1:You know you hit 50 and you're like, dang, I'm on the downside man. You know you get to that 50 and you think, yeah, I'm at middle age for real. I hope, I hope I live to 102. Probably not, do you? I don't know? I kind of do, and I think the reason is because I want to really take care of myself. You know I don't want to live to 102 and be in a home and not able to walk or exercise, but yeah, I'd love to live to 102 and still be traveling and still be, you know, able to. You know, go out and enjoy doing the things I enjoy doing. So, yeah, you know it's more about I think we talk about lifespan these days, but it's really more health span, right, I mean I would rather live to 90 and be super healthy than live to 102. And that's what I'm not and feel really awful, so yeah.
Speaker 2:I agree.
Speaker 1:So, yeah, that's why I'm doing all the things. Yeah, longevity is great, but being healthy while you're still kicking around here is really the key right, especially with kids.
Speaker 2:Oh yeah, gosh, I don't know how they have so much energy. I wish I could put all that and tell what we did here.
Speaker 1:I think you've done it. Yeah, I think you've done it Because I mean, I really do. I can tell when I don't do my regimen. I'm dragging at like two in the afternoon.
Speaker 2:I can really tell and that's the thing too is like you can drink that and then go eat a Pop-Tart now.
Speaker 1:No, you're not going to no.
Speaker 2:You're going to feel good. You're going to eat a salad for lunch, you're going to go for a run, you're going to get outside, you're going to get some vitamin D. I mean, this is really the kickstarter for your day.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that's the beautiful thing, you know. Then that guilt kicks in. You see that donut in the break room. You're less likely to grab it.
Speaker 2:Really and truly you are. I mean, it's scientifically proven, Truly, and it's like make your bed. You know it's so easy. It's such an easy concept that people don't do and won't do Every day. You just can stay disciplined and consistent with it.
Speaker 1:It's there's a whole book about it. There's a whole book about making your bed.
Speaker 2:I read them all.
Speaker 1:So it is. It's about jump-starting your day and doing what's healthy for you, and I just love that you guys have created this for us. Now let's talk about people that maybe have gluten sensitivity or dairy sensitivity, things like that. Anybody, any of those people?
Speaker 2:Certified gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, amazing, yep.
Speaker 1:So you're good on all aspects and no GMOs for those that are, yeah, really anti-GMO. I totally get that. That's amazing. So we're doing all kinds of things. So you kind of hinted at this. So it's not only your gut health, it's not only getting your vitamins and nutrients in, but this is also good for for, like, cognitive function and stress. It's like you were talking about ashwagandha. Some of those things can really be almost natural anti-anxiety type treatment. Yeah, the mushrooms, yeah.
Speaker 2:It's. It's. It's something that you know. I think that mental health in this nation is really becoming an issue. You know, I think that mental health in this nation is really becoming an issue and that starts with anxiety and stress and identity crisis almost after college and, like I experienced in the career change you know, not knowing who you are, and it's you know. When you can add these kind of supplements into your daily routine, it really can, you know, make it. It can make you pivot, pivot in the in a way that is so beneficial.
Speaker 1:Yeah, just to help you manage that stress yeah, absolutely yeah, cause when you're, when you're clear headed and then that just makes everything a little bit better. Makes everything a little bit better. All right, so talk to us a little bit about you know kind of how, how do you put this into your regimen? How do you recommend people you know get this into their regimen so that they, you know, really are getting these benefits?
Speaker 2:You know, I think that you know, like Premier offers, you know, a consultation. You guys can provide that and, on a person-to-person basis, be able to tell them what they need. And it really comes down to how bad that person wants it. You know how bad do you want to lose the weight, how bad do you want to live longer and healthier, how bad you know. And that it comes down to, you know, that consistency, that discipline. For me it was at first, it was I'm so ADHD that I have to literally scoop it into this, leave it by the water filler and fill it up before I leave in the morning.
Speaker 1:You have to take all of the steps out of it.
Speaker 2:You do. You have to write it down, you know, make sure that it's on your calendar, check it off, do whatever you have to do, Because once you get into the routine, it really is what continues. You know your interaction with the wellness environment and what you could do more of or do less of, or you know, and then you talk to people like yourself who are professionals in the, in the space that can really help people and guide them, because I feel like that's where a lot of people miss is they're afraid to ask, Right?
Speaker 1:right.
Speaker 1:So, and I think you know where it's filling a niche that I really love right now.
Speaker 1:You know we've gotten into, you know, bioidentical hormones, and so a lot of those women are, you know, they've gained a lot of weight because they've gone, or they're perimenopause or going through menopause, have a lot of, you know, people that are overweight, obese, that are on the GLP-1s, and so when we're trying to lose weight, this is such a great option because a lot of people just don't eat healthy when they try to lose weight, they just try to cut calories and they're not getting those nutrients that their body needs, and that's almost going to do the opposite. That makes your body kind of want to hang on to everything and it makes the weight loss so much, so much more difficult. So I just love this for for all of those patients that are on that wellness journey or weight loss journeys, because it's really going to help them. Yeah, absolutely, because it really does. It shuts off your hunger. Yeah, you know, I do that with my supplements every morning and I usually then I don't eat until lunchtime, and it's been, it's been a game changer for me.
Speaker 2:It's not one that really hurts your stomach either.
Speaker 1:It's not at all yeah.
Speaker 2:Not so many that hurts your stomach either. It's not at all. Yeah, not so many that hurts your stomach. I've tried celery juice. That is the worst.
Speaker 1:Okay, I've not tried celery juice Juiciness, terrible.
Speaker 2:The whole process is just miserable.
Speaker 1:Okay, Well, let's just skip the celery juice and just do our optimal human. We'll just go right to it. I love the rebrand. I love all the goodies that you brought us. I love these little cards that even you know you've got little hints for people that this is a resistance band exercise workout for people, so you guys are really kind of trying to support the whole human. I love that concept.
Speaker 2:Yeah, absolutely, and we're coming out with so many you know really fun things that we've seen this expansion with you guys and we're coming out. We're here, we hear everybody, we're coming out with stick packs, to-go packs. Those are all the perks which I know.
Speaker 1:I'm so stoked about that.
Speaker 2:Yes For putting it in person.
Speaker 1:Yep, that was the one thing that the AG1 still had on you guys is they had those little packets that I love to take with me when I travel. Yeah, they do. I'm ready for the sticks. Glad you guys are bringing those. That's amazing. And you brought up me a little frother today. I feel so honored. I love a frother. Nothing better than that. My kids, of course, are going to take it and use it for all their little little drinks that they make too. This is amazing. Oh, that's better.
Speaker 2:I'll just take it to the office. That way they can't steal it from me. Absolutely, that's even better. So anything else that we haven't really talked about. As far as Optimal Human goes, you know, I think that this whole wellness journey is very personal. I think that you guys make it really easy to come in, feel comfortable, you know, get what you need. Optimal Human is we're just thankful to be on the shelves and a part of the premier aesthetic wellness routine.
